My name is Crystal Torgunrud and I am the principal of Saskatoon Misbah School. I am delighted to have the opportunity to lead at SMS after a 32 year career with Saskatoon Public Schools, the final 15 years in administration.
Saskatoon Misbah School is a newly-formed Certified Independent School committed to providing a positive, nurturing Islamic learning environment. SMS’s teaching staff encourages and celebrates excellence in Islamic values, respect and kindness while striving to achieve academic excellence through best practice instructional strategies.
The academic program is delivered with differentiation so that each child may experience success while developing students’ self-confidence as learners and positive attitudes toward education. SMS provides instruction in the seven required areas of study as directed by Saskatchewan Learning. These include language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, health, arts education and physical education.
Saskatoon Misbah School believes strongly in the worth of every child and encourages students to treat all staff and peers with respect and kindness. We hold high behavioural expectations for the entire student body. Mutual respect between students and teachers is expected and necessary to ensure a safe, productive learning environment.
The staff is excited to see the return of extra-curricular activities for many students this year. Teachers are eager to share their passion, knowledge and expertise in debate, student leadership, athletics, coding, chess, mathematics and other areas in the months to come.
